::Anatomy Breakdown Series:: Part 2- Backbends

In a culture of desk chairs, sofas, ottomans, benches, stools, beanbags and la-z-boys, the strength and structure of our backs is a crumbling relic. Backbends offer deep and long awaited therapy to the whole body, let's find out why.

Practice and learn safe anatomical principles regarding the posterior kinetic chain of the human body. We will explore the safety of the spine, and how to properly use not just key muscles of backbends, but a whole interdependent system.

This workshop is appropriate for both students and teachers alike, who wish to better understand the human body and deepen their connection to themselves and others through the common vessel which holds us all.

We will begin with a thorough and informative practice to integrate the experiential understanding of backbends, and after a much needed savasana we will spend time analyzing the sequencing, anatomy, and physiology of what we just practiced. We will then take a deep dive into the anatomy behind Spinal Extension, and look at how to incorporate these principles into our daily movement patterns, our exercise, our practice, and our teaching.
